On the events in Israel on the occasion of the Day of Victory over Militaristic Japan and the end of World War II
On September 4, on the occasion of the Day of Victory over Militaristic Japan and the end of World War II (September 3), Ambassador of Russia to Israel Anatoly Viktorov took part in the ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the Monument of the Victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany in Netanya.
In his address, Anatoly Viktorov reminded that 78 years ago the bloodiest and most destructive armed conflict in human history was put to an end. He emphasized that the USSR played a decisive role in the defeat of Nazi Germany, together with its allies, liberated Europe from the Nazi scourge and put an end to Japanese military aggression in the Far East. Drew attention to the fact that today attempts continue to belittle and distort the role of the Soviet Union in World War II, and historical facts are being replaced by false narratives. He emphasized that the approaches of Russia and Israel to preserving historical truth remain the cornerstone of interaction between our countries and reflect the entire complex of deep spiritual ties between the two peoples. He pointed out that we must be vigilant and do everything possible to prevent neo-Nazism, anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia in any of their manifestations from raising again and putting the world on the brink of new global catastrophes.
