On events in Israel on the occasion of Diplomatic Worker's Day

On February 10, on the occasion of Diplomatic Worker's Day, at the Courtyard of the holy Apostle Peter and the righteous Tabitha in Jaffa, Ambassador of Russia to Israel Anatoly Viktorov took part in the traditional memorial service and ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the grave of the Vice-Consul of the Russian Empire in Palestine Vladimir Timofeev.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Daulet Yemberdiev, Chargé d'Affaires of Belarus in Israel Yuri Simakov, Counselor of the Embassy of Uzbekistan Bahadir Badalov, Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeev), Key Keeper of the Courtyard of the Holy Apostle Peter and Righteous Tabitha in Jaffa Archpriest Nikolai Zhdanov, Director of the Russian House in Israel Diana Magad, Representative of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Goszagransobstvennost" Roman Dikansky, Russian diplomats, journalists.

On the same day, a reception was held at the residence of the Ambassador of Russia to Israel Anatoly Viktorov. He congratulated those gathered on their professional holiday. Noted that since time immemorial, true patriots have worked in the diplomatic field, who cared about the welfare of the Russian state and its people. Emphasized that Israel and the entire Middle East have historically had a special significance for our country. Pointed out that we have never viewed this region as a springboard for colonial aggression or as an object of military and political ambitions. Drew attention to the fact that this important fact today contributes to the development of constructive multifaceted ties with all Middle Eastern states. Recalled his predecessors who worked in the Holy Land, three of whom are buried in the territory of modern Israel. Assured that the Embassy will continue its consistent work to strengthen a trusting dialogue with Israeli colleagues on all aspects of bilateral relations, regional and international agendas.

The guests were presented with an exhibition "Explaining Myself in the Genre of Ben Yehuda in Ancient Hebrew" prepared by the Counsellor of the Embassy of Russia in Israel Fedor Georgi. The exhibition is dedicated to Abraham Solomyak, who at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries became the first translator of Hebrew in the Russian diplomatic service.
